In May, 2008, during National Peace Officers Memorial Week, four active and retired Raleigh police officers participated in the Police Unity Tour, an annual bicycle ride from Virginia Beach to Washington, D.C.  Each of us rode in honor of a fallen Raleigh officer.  The ride culminated with more than 1000 bicycle riders from across the country converging on the National Police Memorial.  The Police Unity Tour ride honors officers who have died in the line of duty and raises funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

After returning from this event, we recognized the need to bring local awareness to our fallen officers and their families.  The result -- Run for Our Heroes.  Each year prior to the National Peace Officers Memorial Week, we will honor fallen Raleigh police officers locally with an annual memorial service, road race and other family-oriented festivities.  All money raised will be used to host this local event with the remaining proceeds being donated to the Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation.

We recognize and appreciate those members of our community that support us and provide us with the means to carry on this mission.
